Now the the title sounds grander than the post may actually suggest, but sometimes in writing its hard to sound even more dull than I am or the mundaneness of what I am about to post, but hey. As its some time out of work, I am completing as rearrangement of some finance work I did before I went on my holidays. Thankfully my holiday was paid for from a sharesave and money I had in the bank so no need for any debt.
However, as I was checking through where I was at, I “rediscovered” the amount of plastic I had sitting in a wallet, in a drawer, just around the house. In the main they all had zero balances are small (and I mean tiny) balances. As such I’ve been making an effort to clear down and more importantly closing down accounts. For some easy I had all details for others, didnt have the card in question which makes it difficult.
As part of my review, I’ve been going through APR’s to see whats cheap and expensive. My go to card is a Barclaycard at 6.9% which isnt too bad in fairness. I’ve just closed a Tesco @12.9% as they wouldnt move me to the 7% card and I need to leave, wait 6 months and reapply…. A Natwest at 20+ has gone and a MBNA is almost gone (but its currently 0%) In terms of revolving credit through cards, there was scope for 30k+ of debt, thank god I am not completely mental.
Fair to say though not just about the APR rate I’ve kept a nationwide highish % as its a fee free no load european card so worth having if abroad.
Next up is the biannual trip to the bank as the mortgage is about to drop off its 2 year fixed deal and interest rate would revert to base. Now that’s not great in the current state of play so I need to go back and revisit. In all fairness last time, no issue, I went with all the details which confused the lady and we had an offer done in less than 20 minutes and it all concluded in a month or so. There was also an incentive cashback payment last time. I wonder what they will offer this time?
A quick look suggests on a 2 year jobbie:
|Borrowing between 60% and 75% of your home’s value|
|No product or mortgage account fee.||2.09% fixed until 31 October 2017||Homeowner Variable Rate, currently 3.99%||£0||3.8% APR||For loans between £0 and £149,999.|
Or 5 years:
|Borrowing between 65% and 75% of your home’s value|
|No product or mortgage account fee.||2.89% fixed until 31 October 2020||Homeowner Variable Rate, currently 3.99%||£0||3.7% APR||For loans between £0 and £149,999.|
Decisions….. but not until next week…. or even looking further afield….
When I look back I’ve been quite good (well by my standards) at keeping the blog up-to-date. Of course, there are gaps but its not too bad. However, I got a question asking why I wasn’t blogging, and in fairness, I’d been busy, tired, and a bit meh. However, it is good to write things down from time to time. So in no particular order:
I am just back from a truly great holiday in Madeira. Quinta Do Lorde if you are interested a lovely recent resort built around a marina. All inclusive wasn’t cheap but it was worth every penny in all fairness. 3 meals a day, plus some snacks, and drink between 11 and midnight. Being on my own, the idea was rest and peace and quiet. Mission achieved. It was so good the main pool over three levels was often quiet so no one went up there so it was a bit like having my own pool.
I’ve posted some random pictures in the post below (if it works!)
I would go back at the drop of a hat, and indeed a sun hat was needed.
The return from holiday leads us nicely onto Fitness Academy (or boot camp if you prefer). The plan here was to stop for this cycle enjoy my holiday then come back. However, a change in the schedule meant I wasnt going to miss many sessions rather than the week and a half I had anticipated. As such I’ve re-signed up again for another cycle. Sadly I did miss the fitness test (yeeeee haaa) but I decided to give it my all this. Lets see what happens. [Note I missed Friday as I slept in!] This mornings session was really busy for a saturday with 29 people there I believe – partner workout – Swing when you are winning. One person kettle bell (20kg) whilst the other did get up, burpee, plan builder. 6 rounds each….
The finisher was a 5 minute AMRAP for 10 slams 20 pressup 30 slams. Ouch
Next up is the new gym – xercise4less which is newly opened in North shields. Having joined up in April (!) and it finally opens now…. A big former warehouse as it were converted to 400 stations of gym work. I tweeted the picture on the left, as I was about to go in to battle with the ropes. My god do they hurt. Its not a replacement for the fitness academy, but when I am stuck at work, it allows an alternative location to maintain stuff.
I did my induction which also had no hard sell which was greart and then did a quick round of exercise trying out some bits and pieces.
Not HAL no its the Tefal Optigril. Having replaced George Foreman the new grill is working out well. I’ve been adventurous with marinated chicken, then burger, then pork loin…. its been a great purchase. To help out care of amazon, a new sponge and spatula arrived today as I dont want to ruin the surface.
Well worth a look if you need a grill or are thinking about upgrading from a GF Grill.
Tomorrow is return to the Gym for Kickboxercise which is a technique based class rather than jump around. Cross between boxing, thai boxing and MMA. Its good fun. I do however keep skinning my knuckles so I need some extra padding there.
I don’t think we will comment on work other than back to it, recruitment in flow and changes are coming.
Hey well done if you’ve made it this far! and i wonder how bad the formatting will look, but I am too tired to fix it.
If you did make it this far, lets end on a song…..
Morning, an early start for no great reason meant that I was out and about for breakfast. I decided on a whim, off to the Toby for the breakfast buffet, so indulged in cooked stuff and toast. You might think that’s wholly unsuitable for the plan, but meh is my answer. I always said from the start I would do it, but I am not being a slave to it, or the scales for that matter. Now that might sound like giving up but its not.
Current progress? no idea, but I am following the principles and making it a liveable choice – slowly off slowly on?? It seems the way forward. Additionally free drinks from work on Friday also meant “takeway” style dinner for lunch. I am not beating oneself up over this and last night, no celebration but instead, quorn, and steamed veg was a change.
Today is tidying up or what I should be doing, but a little motivation is required I think, but its next on the things todo….
On that bombshell, offski
The right hand side seems to have taken a beating during this whole exercise malarky – shall we go bottom up….
Quads and thighs tight and need work along with IT Bands
Bottom is better but hips slightly out of alignment.
Lower back sore and reduced flexibility
Upper back tight – very tight
Neck stiff and compressed.
You may have noticed knees were missed out as they were working, but in fairness some rest has eased those off a bit.
For the rest of me, many sets of exercises to work it all out and repeat visits. With regards to the program, keep going was the verdict but avoid anything overhead which is duely noted, and amendments made. Eg todays floor to overhead was a switch to kettlebell pull ups, and all is well.
As an aside, tyre flipping is fun.
Enough from me, work to do…..
Oh well the broken tooth has finally left me with a visit to the Dentist this morninig. The acutal process was relatively painless in all fairness, but the aftermath, as in the bleeding has been unpleasent.
It got to the stage, I even ended up taking some painkillers to try to make it better.
Lunch turned into a disapointing Muller Light as the face wasnt up to anything else
This always wasnt helped by my decision to still attend bootcamp, but in fairness as I had more troubling issue, it did stop my nose from running!
I think, after today in work, no exercise, no passing go and off to bed I go.
Enjoy your weekends everyone
Its Saturday again and I find myself watching the 6 nations and letting the weekend pass me by. Loads of stuff to do, but no will to do it.
I look back to last week, and try to work out what I achieved. What does spring to mind, was “my fault” was used a few times, both rightly and wrongly. It’s sometimes disappointing to pick up the grief but not the reward when you step up. We forget sometimes people don’t step up, so if you risk it, then atleast I think we should support people and accept that sometimes things may go wrong. Sadly, business need often then is rolled out as a reason for all.
I also discovered late in the week an issue with a tooth, a big bugger at the back upper left as i see it. I suspect its one of the many where root canal was done and filled. I only spotted it, due to a sharp edge rubbing against my tongue. Thankfully, so far, no pain, so booked in with the dentist but sadly appointment is 24th of the month, so quite a way to go. Lets hope the pain stays away.
Hmm, not the right image really as suggests walking into the sunset but its not really. I’ve been tracking steps and sleep with a fitbug i got in the sale. However, its simplicity is the biggest issue. One LED doesnt always explain whats its doing, so sometimes, I am asleep when I am awake and vice versa. Because of this, I’ve upgraded to the fitbit charge, which has a display and has a little more functionality. An offer code for Argos helped reduce the cost of the item down.
Tracking of walking/exercise, goes hand in hand with tracking food. For a little while, I’ve been considering a boot camp but it comes with an eating plan. Lots of protein little carbs sums it up. However, most of the lean stuff chicken and fish are things i really struggle with. As such, I’ve faced some fears this past week with a baked cod dish – foil parcel, salt pepper and chilli peppers and was very nice. I’ve gone as far as buying more fish this week. Chicken still presents an issue, but did manage turkey the other day.
Next up, sort out what I plan to do with boot camp and if going to do it…
